COB
“COB” stands for “Chip on Board”. “Chip” here means the small LED (light-emitting diode). This is applied directly to the “board” (see PCB – Printed circuit board) together with a few more LEDs. In the case of the Micro Lens COB, for example, there are 40 of them. This technology enables a modern light pattern design for rear lights.
LED
LED – “Light emitting diode”. It has now completely replaced the incandescent bulb. The advantages of the LED over the incandescent bulb are a much longer lifetime and robustness in the event of shocks. And all this at only about one tenth of the energy consumption.
PCB
PCB – “Printed circuit board” is a carrier of electronic components, such as capacitors, resistors, sensors and also LEDs. It is found in virtually every electronic device, including our bicycle lights. In dynamo front lights, for example, the capacitors for the stand light function are found on the PCB. In the case of rear lights, the sensor for the StopTech brake light function is located there, for example, as in our “Edge” brake light.
CDC
Cathodic dip coating (CDC) is an electrochemical coating method. The component to be coated (in our case: bicycle spokes) is immersed in an electrically conductive paint bath. After being exposed to an electrical voltage, paint particles are deposited on the component. The paint particles form a uniform paint film over the entire surface. The paint film increasingly insulates the component and ultimately stops the electrical attraction. After the paint layer has been applied, thermal treatment takes place in a specially designed curing oven. The resulting coating provides effective and long-lasting corrosion protection with high temperature and chemical resistance. It is scratch-resistant and safe against stone chipping. Various pre-treatments further improve the corrosion protection and create an excellent adhesion base for the CDC process.
In the industry, cathodic dip coating is considered one of the most efficient coating processes for metal surfaces. As the solvent is based on water and the paints are free of lead and zinc, this is a particularly environmentally friendly surface coating.
